I have returned from my holiday! I spent it playing WoW and cleaning, it was wonderful.
It's the first holiday I've taken all year and I sure needed it. One of the most challenging parts of freelancing for me has been balancing work with well...everything else. Especially me-time. I've learned I need to take it even if I can't afford to, else my future work suffers.
It's been a year since I embarked on my art as a career journey, and It's been my sole income since September. I've had a few scrapes too close to being unable to afford food or rent, but I'm lucky to have friends and family who've fished me out of it every time. My clients and those of you who share my work have helped immensely, too, perhaps unknowingly. So-- a huge thank you to my supporters out there, for without you this wouldn't be possible.
I've not made a financial loss at all in my first year of business, which is statistically remarkable; most fail long before that time is up. I'm hopeful for my future, which is a welcome change. I certainly wasn't when I couldn't get any support for my disabilities, or work that accommodated them, so I'd say although this year has been extremely tumultuous it's been a good one. And I endeavor to think of every year this way, because there's so much to be learned even from terrible circumstances.
Lastly, my holiday commission special only has a few days left on it; 15-30% off all private commissions. Details here: machinesbleedtoo.tumblr.com/po…
Have a happy and safe new years, everyone. I hope you're all doing well.
